50
Year & 25 Year Awards
Hampton Lodge honored its long serving
Masons on February 17,
2003 as 60 members and guests gathered to witness one member receive a
25-Year
Award and three other receive 50-Year Awards.

Almost every seat in the house was filled
for the important
event.

Past Grand Master, C. E. "Buster" Horne,
was on hand
to present the Awards. Here he is introduced by our Treasurer, Bro. Joe
Turner.

Joseph Lamar Bragg receives a certificate
and pin evidencing his
25 years of membership in the Masonic fraternity.

Three Hampton Lodge members were honored
with a 50-Year Apron
and pin. Bro. Horne assists honoree Bro. Austin put on his apron.

Bro. Horne congratulates each of the
recipients and thanks them
for their years of service.

Bro. Starr's wife pins his 50-Year Pin
upon his lapel. This is a
most symbolic gesture as the success of Masons is in no small measure
dependent
upon the support of their families, particularly their wives. Bro. Mutt
said he
was proud to be a Mason and he thanked his wife for standing behind him.

Bro. Elder Merlin "Mutt" Starr became a
Master Mason
in Hampton Lodge on January 9, 1953 and served as Master of the Lodge
in 1971.
He continues to frequent the Lodge and even coaches candidates on their
memory
work. A "Mason's Mason", Mutt is very well regarded by his brother
Masons.

Bro. William Thurman Austin became a
Master Mason in Hampton
Lodge on September 12, 1952 and served as Master of the Lodge in 1965.
He
recalls being present when the foundation was laid for the present
Lodge Hall.
He told the audience that he has enjoyed all the years that he has been
a Master
Mason.

Bro. George Byron Hawkins, Jr. became a
Master Mason in Hampton
Lodge on February 27, 1953. He said he hoped he would be here in 25
more years
to receive his 75-Year Apron, to which Bro. Horne replied, "And I hope
I'm
here to present it to you!"

Over 175 years of Masonry was honored
tonight, including the
three 50-Year Masons above. Hampton Lodge owes much to these gentlemen
and it
was our pleasure to honor them in this special way.
